Washington Wizards rookie Alex Sarr did not waste time showcasing what he is capable of on defense in his team's Summer League game against the Atlanta Hawks on Friday in Las Vegas, blocking three shots in a span of 23 seconds. Fans could not help but be amazed by his performance, with some viewing him as a Defensive Player of the Year winner in the making.

The 19-year-old French player, who was selected second overall in this year's NBA rookie draft out of the Australian league, showed his defensive instincts by blocking the shots of Hawks forwards Mouhamed Gueye and Rob Baker in successive fashion midway into the second quarter.

NBA fans were impressed with the defensive play of Alex Sarr, taking to X, formerly Twitter, to make their thoughts known.

One user observed how Sarr could give fellow Frenchmen Victor Wembanyama and Rudy Gobert a run for their money for the Defensive Player of the Year award at some point.

"The Wemby vs. Gobert vs. Alex Sarr race for future DPOTY's is going to be such a fun subplot," they wrote.

Some commented on how the Wizards got a solid player in seven-foot Sarr, who should help them in their campaign moving forward.

"If you want to go fast, get a guard. If you want to go far, get a mobile big," a highly impressed fan wrote.
"He is a cheat code," one chimed in.
"Wizards might be playoff bound," another conveyed.

Meanwhile, there were comments that moved to highlight the upside of the young player.

"'Kid's a beast!" one fan said.
"'Shouldve went number 1,'" another user suggested.
"That's at least his 3rd block already. The @NBLNextStars program is producing the goods once again. I am surprised he didn't go #1 but alas, he's showing good signs," one fan said while also giving props to the Australian league where Sarr played.

One comment, meanwhile, compared Sarr with NBA legend and Basketball Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett:

"Kevin Sarrnett amirite?," the user asked.

Alex Sarr finished the game with 12 points, seven rebounds, four blocks, four assists and a steal in 32 minutes, helping the Wizards to a 94-88 victory.

Alex Sarr likes how he fits with the Washington Wizards

Alex Sarr is happy and excited to have been selected by the Washington Wizards in this year's NBA Draft. He believes he is in a great situation where he would be able to contribute right away.

During draft night, the second overall pick out of the Australian league said what Washington is trying to accomplish moving forward resonates with him. The 19-year-old big man said:

"They are rebuilding right now and they are going in the right direction. You can see the hunger in trying to go somewhere and that is something that really matches with me."
