The Darvin Ham era in Los Angeles may have ended, but Lakers superfan O’Shea Jackson Jr. isn’t done critiquing the now Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach. The actor revisited Ham’s tenure with the Lakers while reflecting on the Bucks’ victory in the 2024 Emirates NBA Cup.
Appearing on “The Big Podcast with Shaquille O’Neal,” Jackson expressed mixed feelings about Ham’s time in LA, acknowledging his support for having a Black coach but criticizing his decision-making.
“I held my tongue for a long time,” Jackson said. “So I'm all for a black man coaching the Lakers because I haven’t seen it in my whole life. I’m born ‘91. I didn't see that a lot. So I'm all for it, but boy, call timeout, please. It was like timeouts. It was rotations.”

Jackson also humorously questioned why forward Taurean Prince received so much playing time under Ham’s leadership, hinting at a mysterious connection between the two.
“I don't know what evidence Taurean Prince had on you while he was on the Lakers. But dawg, it would be times where we are just confused as a community. No, that's your boy. And then y'all both go to the Bucks together. What he got on you, bro, what is it?”
During the 2023-24 season, Prince logged the fifth-most minutes per game for the Lakers, trailing only Anthony Davis, LeBron James, D’Angelo Russell, and Austin Reaves.
In the offseason, Prince signed with the Bucks as a free agent, and Darvin Ham, after being let go by the Lakers, joined Milwaukee as part of Doc Rivers’ coaching staff.
Taurean Prince and Darvin Ham make NBA Cup history
Darvin Ham’s first year with the Lakers saw them reach the Western Conference Finals, where they fell to the Denver Nuggets. In his second season, the Lakers captured the In-Season Tournament title but were ousted in the first round of the playoffs by the same Nuggets team.
Following the disappointing playoff exit, the Lakers replaced Ham with first-time head coach JJ Redick.
Ham quickly found a new role with the Bucks, and Taurean Prince also joined the team. Prince is flourishing in Milwaukee and is leading the NBA in 3-point percentage this season.
Prince, who earned $500,000 as part of the Lakers’ championship win in the inaugural In-Season Tournament, received $514,971 for winning this year’s NBA Cup with the Bucks.
Both Prince and Ham now share the rare distinction of being undefeated in NBA Cup play, marking back-to-back titles for the player-coach duo.
