The New Orleans Pelicans can't catch a break. Brandon Ingram, who had already missed six games this season, is now looking at a long layoff.

According to a report by ESPN's Shams Charania on Sunday, the Duke product will be out indefinitely with a low ankle injury.

The Pelicans are 5-19 this season and have had most of their stars missing significant time with injuries. Dejounte Murray got hurt in the first game of the campaign and just returned to action on Nov. 25, CJ McCollum and Herbert Jones have also been out, and there's still no word on Zion Williamson's return.

Fans react to Brandon Ingram's injury

It didn't take long before fans took to the comments section with reactions to this huge blow to Willie Green's team.

"I can’t recall a team that’s had more injuries than the Pelicans have had this year. I feel bad for all New Orleans Pelicans fans," one fan tweeted.
"What is in that New Orleans water good grief," another fan said.
"Finally had BI and McCollum back again. Now this for Ingram. Pelicans season that was doomed from the start," a fan said.
"This is terrible news. The Pelicans must have angered the basketball gods to a new extreme with the amount of injuries this club has taken," another fan commented.

However, others talked about the Pelicans potentially getting Cooper Flagg in next year's draft.

"do not let this team get Cooped Flagg," one fan said.
"Pels can’t catch a break but it’s fine they full on capture the Flagg now," another fan wrote.

The Pelicans were expected to compete at a high level this season, but they just can't stay healthy.

Brandon Ingram entered the season as a potential trade candidate but interest around the league has reportedly been slim. Given his history of injuries, it's easy to understand why some teams are wary about paying him big money.

Ingram has dealt with hamstring, knee, shoulder and ankle injuries. He also had a blood clot and has been out indefinitely more times than the average NBA player.

He is a talented player who could and should make a strong impact on any contending team, but availability matters, and this will take a big toll on the next contract he gets.
