After losing Paolo Banchero early in the season, the Orlando Magic are now set to be without Franz Wagner indefinitely. On Saturday, ESPN's NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Wagner suffered a torn right oblique and would be out indefinitely.
He reportedly suffered the injury on Friday during the Magic's 102-94 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, where he played 38 minutes.
"Just in: Orlando Magic star forward Franz Wagner has suffered a torn right oblique and is out indefinitely, sources tell ESPN," Charania tweeted. "Wagner sustained the injury Friday night and will be re-evaluated in four weeks."

Charania then followed it up with another post, referencing the oblique injury sustained by Banchero earlier this season.
"Magic have lost both of their star forwards -- Paolo Banchero and Wagner -- to torn oblique injuries. Devastating. Wagner has put together an All-Star worthy season: 24.4 points, 5.7 assists, 5.6 rebounds and lifting Orlando to a third-place, 16-9 record so far in the East."
Looking at a potential return timeline for Franz Wagner as the Magic face an uphill battle to remain competitive in the Eastern Conference
After Paolo Banchero went down early in the season with a torn oblique, Franz Wagner was instrumental in helping to keep the Magic as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.
With the young star sidelined indefinitely, the franchise will likely face an uphill battle while trying to hold onto third place in the East. With the New York Knicks nipping at its heels, just half a game behind in the standings, the impact of losing Wagner on top of Banchero can't be understated.
According to Sports Illustrated, Wagner will be reevaluated in four weeks. At this point, fans should have a better idea of how long the young star will be out.
While the injury is described as a tear, in the case of a full rupture (considered to be Grade 3), athletes are often sidelined for months.
Given that Wagner is set to be reevaluated in 4-6 weeks, and surgery hasn't been mentioned, there may be some hope that he suffered a Grade 2 tear, which typically requires between 5-8 weeks to heal.
In either case, we'll have to wait and see the next update on Franz Wagner for further details about his recovery timeline.
