Kevin Durant exited Tuesday's contest between the Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs before halftime. The former MVP didn't return. According to the latest injury update provided by the Suns, Durant is out with an ankle injury. He sustained the blow after driving to the rim full steam with three Spurs defenders waiting for him.

Durant rolled his ankle and immediately went down, grimacing in pain.

The injury occurred with 4:30 left in the half. He returned to the bench but didn't leave the locker room in the third quarter. Grayson Allen took his place in the lineup after the halftime break. The Suns are calling if a left ankle sprain.

Durant ended the night with 13 points, four rebounds, two assists and three turnovers. He shot 5-of-8, including 2-of-2 from 3, playing 16:29 minutes. The Sunsn won 104-93 despite Durant's second-half absence.

However, they lost their chance to qualify for the NBA Cup quarterfinals. The OKC Thunder made it out of their group, while the Dallas Mavericks from another group made the wildcard entry with a better point differential.

Suns suffer major blow with another Kevin Durant's injury

Kevin Durant's 2024-25 NBA season has been nothing short of an MVP-caliber run. However, injuries have held him back. Durant already missed two weeks of action with a calf strain. He couldn't play in seven games after that. His latest setback could keep him out of more games.

The 36-year-old has been injury-prone since the summer after dealing with a calf issue with Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics, too. The Suns have a three-game road trip, and Durant could be out. Their 1-6 record without him makes his potential absence a tough blow, especially on the road, as they are 4-4 away.

Coach Mike Budenholzer said the Suns don't have an immediate update on Durant's status but revealed the veteran star's ankle stiffed up at halftime against the Spurs, forcing him to end his night early.

The onus will be on Devin Booker and Bradley Beal to ensure the Suns don't enter another slump with Kevin Durant out. The next update on Durant will be available on Wednesday morning.
