Team USA vs Australia on Monday is the second preparation game for the Americans for the upcoming Paris Olympics. The American stars will clash against a top squad in the world and will be keen to make another statement after beating a dangerous Canada team last week.
Australia has reasons to be optimistic about this matchup since it won the last pre-Olympic game it played against Team USA. Back in 2021, the two teams faced off for a pre-Olympic exhibition match in Las Vegas. That time, Australia sounded the alarms with a 91-83 win, giving Team USA only its third loss in pre-Olympic exhibition games since 1992.
That is a major stat for Australia, but when the gold medal game was on the line, it couldn't get past Team USA. After cruising the group stage in the Tokyo Olympics with three wins and zero losses and beating Argentina in the quarterfinals, Australia faced Team USA in the semifinals, which ended in a 97-78 win for the Americans.
They beat Slovenia 107-93 in the bronze medal game, while Team USA beat France to win the gold after losing the first matchup of the tournament against the same opponent.

Team USA started pre-Olympic preparations with win against Canada
Team USA started the quest for another gold medal in the Olympics last week, going against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Dillon Brooks and other NBA Canadian stars in Las Vegas. Anthony Edwards and Anthony Davis scored 13 and 10 points, respectively, leading the second unit against one of the threats they'll probably have in the Olympics.
After a disappointing performance in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, many stars decided it was time to give the team its prestige back. Led by LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum and more, they are set to compete for another gold medal.
Team USA vs Australia will feature plenty of NBA talent
Team USA vs Australia presents plenty of talented players. The Americans are taking a terrific squad to challenge for the gold in a couple of weeks. On the other side, Australia will be led by Patty Mills and Joe Ingles, who will play in their fifth Olympic Games this year. Dante Exum, Josh Green, Jock Landale, Dyson Daniels and Josh Giddey will also feature in the upcoming tournament.
After claiming the bronze medal three years ago, the Australians will be ready to go further and compete for the bigger prize.
