Josh Green signed a new contract with Mavericks

Forward Josh Green agreed to a three-year, $41 million contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks on Monday. Dallas was facing a 4 p.m. CST deadline on Monday to get the extension done. Green could have become a free agent next season; however, he is now booked with Dallas through the 2026-27 season. He is set to make over $13 million annually.

Green was acquired by the Mavericks in the 2020 NBA draft at No. 18. His future with the Mavs seems to be getting solidified. Last season, he averaged 9.1 points per game, while shooting 53.7%. Perhaps, the biggest change that came in his game was the drastic improvement in his 3-point shooting (40.2%). He also started in 21 of the 60 games he played last season.

Dallas had no intention of including Green in trade talks in the offseason. The team was looking to acquire Clint Capela this offseason; however, they refused to include Green in the discussion.

It's still not sure if Dallas coach Jason Kidd will include him in the starting lineup this season. Even if he doesn’t start, he remains one of the team's key players. He is an excellent wing defender and a high-percentage 3-point shooter. He can significantly improve the overall production of the Kyrie Irving-Luka Doncic duo.

Josh Green wants to win NBA title with Dallas Mavericks

Josh Green has been consistent with his desire to remain a Maverick since he was drafted by the team in 2020. The Mavs and Green’s agent were in contract talks even before the FIBA World Cup started. However, both parties failed to reach an agreement before Monday.

When Green was asked on media day about his contract, he said that his job was to play basketball. He added that the conversation about the contract was between his agent and the team management. However, he was clear that he wanted to remain in Dallas.

“I know I want to be here," Green said. "I'm going to work as if I'm going to be here for a long time. I want to be able to win in Dallas. I'm going to be in Dallas. Whatever their decision, it is their decision. I have the same goal every single day, and that's just to be the best teammate or the best player I can be for the team.”

The Mavericks start their regular season on Wednesday against the San Antonio Spurs. It would be interesting to see how Jason Kidd used his 3-and-D wing player.
