What is Justin Holiday's contract with the Dallas Mavericks? Duration, salary, and complete contract breakdown

Indiana Pacers v Los Angeles Lakers
Justin Holiday Contract with Dallas Mavericks

Justin Holiday's contract for the 2022-23 season is $6,292,440. He only has one year left on this deal and will need to sign another contract during the offseason.

Holiday was traded to the Houston Rockets before the NBA Trade Deadline by the Atlanta Hawks for Garrison Matthews and Bruno Fernando. Due to the Rockets not being in any type of contention and not needing a player with Justin Holiday's contract, they decided to buy him out.

This could mean multiple different things in terms of Holiday's contract. A buyout is when a team pays a player an agreed-upon amount for their remaining contract. The buyout then releases them from their contract, and the player has the choice to join any team that he wants 48 hours after he clears waivers.

This means that Justin Holiday's contract is a bit different than what's currently being reported. He agreed to join the Dallas Mavericks; the contract release should be out sometime soon.

How does Justin Holiday affect the Dallas Mavericks

Holiday, 34, can now add wing depth to a team that desperately needs it. After deciding to trade Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith to the Brooklyn Nets for Kyrie Irving. While that deal was certainly the move they needed to make to pair Luka Doncic next to another star, the Mavericks now need to bring in a bigger body that can defend.

While he isn’t known as a lockdown defender, given how cheap Justin Holiday’s contract is, it’s a no-brainer from their perspective to bring him in and hope he can help out. Holiday hasn’t played a ton this season, appearing in just 28 games with Atlanta. In that span, he averaged 4.5 points in 14.7 minutes per game.

Justin has now played for 10 different NBA teams, showing that some believe he can be a positive addition. He’s the type of guy that teams look to move during the deadline and add during the buyout period for multiple reasons. A veteran presence can be used in Dallas and now they got exactly that.

Will they be able to compete with the top teams in the Western Conference with added wing depth? The Mavericks must believe so.
