"Details on how much Penn State is paying Shrewberry alone are not publicly available, but on the athletic department’s financial records, the basketball staff as a whole made $3.3 million during the 2021-22 fiscal year."
Athletic Director Pat Kraft also shared that he wanted to bring Micah Shrewsberry back. However, it was probably impossible for them as they were also looking to bring back the coaching staff.
"It’s not just about paying the coach and the great coaches know that... It’s about keeping the staff. Being able to hire staff if you lose staff, which is part of the process."
Details of Micah Shrewsberry's new deal with Notre Dame haven't been revealed. Aside from the fact that it'll be seven years, the exact amount hasn't been officially announced yet. According to Stadium, the contract is well worth more than $4 million per year. With that, the contract is probably worth $28 million throughout the seven years.
How has Micah Shrewsberry coached Penn State?
Micah Shrewsberry took over the losing team back in 2021 after a season with Jim Ferry as the interim head coach. From being part of the 11-win team, Shrewsberry helped the team add a few more wins to their record the following season. In his first season, the Nittany Lions had a 14-17 record.
In his second season, Shrewsberry turned things around by leading the team to the NCAA tournament. They made it all the way to the second round of the tournament before losing to Texas.
Penn State ended the 2022-23 season with a 23-14 record. Unfortunately, they won't be able to ride the momentum that Shrewsberry has built as he's joining Notre Dame next season.
