When will Kyrie Irving make his debut for Dallas Mavericks and is he playing tonight against Utah Jazz? | February 6th, 2022-23 NBA season

Former Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving

On Sunday afternoon, news broke that Kyrie Irving had been traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Dallas Mavericks. While many might want to see the All-Star guard debut for his new team, they will have to wait a few days.

The Mavericks are in action against the Utah Jazz on Monday night. Luka Doncic has been ruled out, and Irving still has steps to complete before taking the court.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Irving is expected to play his first game for the Mavericks later this week against the LA Clippers following a physical.

While Irving is fully healthy, he will not be taking the court against the Utah Jazz on Monday night. The deal still needs to be finalized and he needs to meet with his new team.

Unfortunately for the Dallas Mavericks, they will be incredibly shorthanded for their matchup against the Jazz. Between Doncic being out and all the trade pieces coming and going, the squad will be incredibly short-staffed.

The teams faced off two weeks ago, and Luka Doncic was also out of the lineup that night as well. Utah went on to win the game by nine points. Heading into Monday's meeting, the Jazz are 6-4 in their last 10 and have a record of 27-27.

When can Kyrie Irving make his debut for Dallas Mavericks?

One thing Mavericks fans have to be excited about is that the wait for Kyrie Irving shouldn't be long. Once he passes a physical with the team's training staff, he'll be ready to make his first appearance.

Right now, it seems like Irving could debut for the Mavericks against the Clippers. Not only could Irving make his first appearance for the Mavs that night, but Doncic could possibly return to the lineup after missing two straight games. This would allow Dallas to unveil its new star duo together against one of the top teams in the Western Conference.

So far this season, Kyrie Irving is averaging 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists. Many have urged the Dallas Mavericks to find an adequate running mate for Doncic, and he now has one. Sharing the backcourt with an elite talent like Irving should help lessen his offensive load on a nightly basis.

There is no telling how this new duo will fare together, but some are anticipating the Mavericks to be a force to be reckoned with moving forward.
