The trailer of its upcoming docu-series, Starting 5, has been released by Netflix, ahead of the Oct. 9 premiere of the highly-anticipated program. The series, which will air exclusively on Netflix, will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at some of the biggest stars in the NBA today.
The 10-part docu-series follows future Hall of Famer LeBron James, Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum, Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler, young Minnesota Timberwolves standout Anthony Edwards and three-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis.
Filmed during the 2023-24 NBA season, where Tatum and the Celtics captured the NBA title, the series will provide a candid look at the lives of players as they compete for the Larry O'Brien Trophy.

The Starting 5 docuseries will feature 10 episodes, each running 45 minutes long, with the entire series dropping on Oct. 9, rather than Netflix rolling out weekly episodes.
Starting 5 is executive produced by LeBron James' longtime friends and business partners, Maverick Carter and Jamal Henderson, as well as former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. In addition, NFL legend Peyton Manning is also credited as an executive producer for the series.
In the past, the Obamas' Higher Ground production company, James' SpringHill Company, and Manning's Omaha Productions have all released their own docu-film projects. Now, the titans have come together to give NBA fans a behind-the-scenes experience they'll never forget, via Starting 5.
Looking at the 2023-24 NBA season, which will be covered in-depth during Netflix's Starting 5 docu-series
While Starting 5 is set to release on Oct. 9, before the start of the 2024-25 NBA season, the series will cover the 2023-24 season that concluded at the start of this summer.
In the case of Domantas Sabonis and the Sacramento Kings, the team was looking to return to the playoffs once more after ending their 16-year postseason drought during the 2022-23 season.
Last season though, while the Starting 5 film crew were following Sabonis and the team's journey, they struggled to find consistency.
Similarly, in the case of Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat, while the team was looking to return to the postseason, Butler suffered a knee injury during the play-in tournament. As a result, the franchise wound up getting eliminated in the first round.
For Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves, the year was a big one. The T-Wolves finished the regular season third in the West, before then making a run all the way to the conference championships in the playoffs. It was their best postseason outing since the 2004 season.
In the case of LeBron James and the LA Lakers, the future Hall of Famer had his sights set on another deep playoff run. He was looking to lead the team on an unprecedented run in his 21st season in the league.
Last, but certainly not least, the series will also follow Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics as the team makes their way through the regular season. They eventually ended up silencing the doubters in the playoffs and captured an NBA title.
