The Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs will battle on Thursday in a clash between Southwest Division rivals to open their seasons. This is the first of four regular-season meetings between the two Western Conference teams this year.
Though the rivalry has lost some of its essence and charm of late with the Spurs in rebuilding mode, the matchup brings together former Golden State Warriors teammates Chris Paul, now with the Spurs, and Klay Thompson, now a Maverick, alongside young superstars Victor Wembanyama and Luka Doncic, respectively, creating the potential for an exciting season-opener.
These two teams have crossed paths 199 times in their storied histories, with the Spurs winning 115 games to the Mavs' 84. Last season, the Mavs swept the series.
