Who is Ashley Moyer-Gleich? Examining the life of the female NBA referee Luka Doncic was "fouling in love with" on court

Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic once hilariously flirted with NBA official Ashley Moyer-Gleich. Doncic appeared to be complaining about a foul, and Moyer-Gleich can be seen asking, "what foul?" to which the Mavs star responded saying:

"Fouling in love with you!"

The video went viral after Moyer-Gleich couldn't help but smile at Doncic's response. Moyer-Gleich was promoted to being a full-time NBA referee in 2018. The 35-year-old is married to NCAA referee and contractor Johnee Gleich.

Ashley Moyer-Gleich also played at college level at Millersville University in Philadelphia. She has past experience refereeing for two seasons at the NBA G-League and one year in the WNBA before she became only the fourth full-time female NBA official.

Ashley Moyer-Gleich fell in love with basketball at a young age

Ashley Moyer-Gleich's love for the game started at a much younger age, though, when she used to watch her father play basketball as a toddler. Moyer-Gleich is an old-school lover of the sport.

She once expressed that every little thing, from the sneakers squeaking on the hardwood to the sound of the ball bouncing, always had her reminisce about her thoughts about the game. Here's what the NBA official said about her journey in the sport (via Hook on Hoops):

"I can remember sitting in the baby seat in the summertime and my dad played basketball... I mean bouncing the basketball, the squeaks of the sneakers on hardwood, that stuff just, my heart races thinking about it.

"Now I love it so much. It's where I feel most myself, without trying to be myself. I effortlessly believe that's where I belong, on the basketball court among basketball... Players and the talk and feel just the movement."

Ashley Moyer-Gleich has officiated 110 regular-season games over the last four years. She experienced the game as a player and a referee. Her undying passion for basketball has played a crucial part in her success as one of the few full-time female officials, and it will continue to be a part of her tremendous career moving forward.
