Who was Lamont Butler's sister Asasha Lache Hall? SDSU player remembers late sister during March Madness 2023

San Diego State's Lamont Butler #5 in action

Lamont Butler sent SDSU to the NCAA championship game with a game-winning jumper in the team's 72-71 win over Florida Atlantic. Butler made the biggest play of the tournament and helped SDSU create history by securing the fifth-biggest comeback in Final Four history.

The play, and subsequent win, meant a lot to Butler. After the game, the SDSU junior reflected on the moment, claiming he felt the presence of his late sister, Asasha Lache Hall, who was shot dead in January 2022.

"I think about her every day. Ever since she passed. She was one of my biggest supporters, and I know she's up there happy right now, watching me play the game that I love. And I think she was with me with that shot. She probably guided the ball in a little bit. I miss her, and I'm just happy I'm able to do this for her."

"I just truly decided that basketball was going to make me happy again. It was a crazy moment in my life to even hear that my sister had passed. But my teammates and my coaches, they gave me time to just decide what I wanted to do.
"They said if I didn't want to come back and play, they were fine with that as well. So they just made me comfortable, and they're also like my second family."

Butler hitting one of the most crucial shots in March Madness history is a fitting tribute to his late sister. Asasha Lache Hall frequently attended SDSU games to show support for her little brother Lamont as he climbed up the ranks.

SDSU may need a Lamont Butler miracle once again to upset UConn

No. 5 SDSU enters the 2023 NCAA championship game as heavy underdogs. They are up against No. 4 UConn which has blown out all their opponents in the tournament so far. However, SDSU could give themselves a significant shot if they can lean on their defense and make the game scrappy.

That's what they did against FAU before Lamont Butler hit the game-winner and sealed the win. San Diego was down 14 at one point in the second half but managed to script a comeback by getting timely stops and scoring in transition.
