Markquis Nowell put in a record-breaking performance in Kansas State's thrilling overtime win over Michigan State in Thursday's Sweet 16 game. Nowell finished the game with 20 points, three rebounds, and an NCAA Tournament record of 19 assists.
Nowell helped the Wildcats move into the Elite Eight, where they will face Florida Atlantic on Saturday. It was a special game for the 23-year-old guard since it was held at Madison Square Garden in his hometown of New York City.

Marcus Nowell Sr. and Kisha Morales raised their four sons in Harlem and Brooklyn, New York. According to Kansas State Sports, Markquis' father stands at 5-foot-9 and his mom is 5-foot-1. Despite their lack of height, Marcus Sr. helped shape his son's love for basketball.
Marcus Sr. was instrumental in his development as a player, expressing his pride for his son in an interview with The Athletic.
"He was always the kid that coaches didn't want to select but had to select because he was just that good," Marcus Sr. said.
Meanwhile, Morales was born and raised in Spanish Harlem, New York. She currently lives in Brooklym and works in a real estate company as an incurrence and AR File clerk, according to Sportslulu. She has been working for SW Management LLC in Roschelle, New York, since 2012.
Morales is also an aspiring author, publishing a book titled "Vindictive: Revenge is a Sweet Sin" in 2017. It's currently available on Amazon in paperback and via Kindle. She's also the CEO of Three Ring Publishing Inc., a small publishing company based in Brooklyn.
Markquis Nowell's father confident in son's ability to draw a crowd
Markquis Nowell, just like most college basketball players, dreams of making it to the NBA. Nowell's size makes it much harder for him to get drafted into the league. He's slated to go undrafted in the 2023 draft, as per Sporting News.
But that hasn't deterred his father, Marcus Nowell Sr., from thinking that his son could make it to the NBA. Marcus Sr. thinks that Markquis can draw a crowd.
"I don't know what an NBA executive is looking for," Marcus Sr. told The Athletic. "But if you're looking for somebody who is going to sell tickets, you've got someone right there who is going to sell tickets."
Markquis Nowell is having a fantastic NCAA Tournament. He's averaging 21.3 ppg, 14.0 apg and 3.7 spg, which could help raise his draft stock. He's looking to have another big game on Saturday against Florida Atlantic. Kansas State has not made it to the Final Four since 1964.
