Despite what some may think, the WNBA has seen some incredibly tall players compete in the league. For example, 7'2" star Margo Dydek, who was inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2019, remains the tallest player in WNBA history. But who is the tallest player in the WNBA today? Let's take a look.
According to the WNBA's active rosters, Bernadett Hatar is the tallest player in the league. The 6'10", 94.3kg Hungarian center for the Indiana Fever is the complete package, considering how quick she is for her size. Unfortunately, leading up to the 2022 season, Hatar suffered a major knee injury that ended her season.
Below you can see some of her highlights.

Bernadett Hatar’s injury and what it means for the upcoming WNBA season
To make Bernadett Hatar’s injury even worse, the incident happened in the final seconds of the league finals game - the last of the season. According to Sopron Basket’s official website, a medical examination performed uncovered the extent of the injury
“The thorough medical examination on Thursday found out that the exterior ligament and the interior lateral ligament in her knee have both been torn. The recovery of our key player will take about ten months including a surgery four weeks from now.”
Since then, Hatar has yet to step on a WNBA court. Fortunately, with the Indiana Fever’s training camp coming up, Hatar will have the chance to compete for a spot on the floor. If she winds up unable to return to form and ends up out of the league, 6’9 Brittney Griner would become the tallest player in the WNBA.
Griner, of course, recently returned to America after a ten-month detention in Russia. There were questions of whether or not she would return to the league this year, or should would take a season off given everything she had been through.
After safely returning home and spending some much-needed time with her wife, Griner announced that she would be playing in the upcoming WNBA season. After signing a one-year contract with the Phoenix Mercury she began to ramp up training for the upcoming season.
She was even pictured training and joking around with media members at the team’s training facility for the first time since returning. Both Hatar and Griner are eager to compete this season could be a big one for the WNBA!
