“Whose fault is that?”- Reggie Miller gives no holds barred take on Joel Embiid for not being in shape

With every game he plays, Joel Embiid is gaining more criticism for his conditioning. The latest to point out the Philadelphia 76ers center's declining performance is former NBA player, Reggie Miller.

During the third quarter of the Philadelphia 76ers-Golden State Warriors game, Miller — who was covering the game for TNT with Kevin Harlan — noticed Embiid's movement on the court and made these comments on air:

"He needs to be sprinting," Miller said right after the camera showed Embiid bending down and clutching his knees, as if to catch his breath. "Now, again, he's not in shape, but whose fault is that? That's the player's fault!"

The former Indiana Pacers great made it clear that he wanted the Sixers center to get back to lethal form.

"He has to get in better shape so he can be the best version of himself: the MVP version," Miller said.

The Sixers' road game against the Warriors, who won the game 139-105, was Embiid's 11th outing this season. He has missed 21 games this season, and it has led to palpable concerns regarding his conditioning.

In turn, his lengthy absence has compromised the 76ers on both ends of the floor. They currently occupy the 11th spot in the Eastern Conference standings with a 13-19 record. Unless Embiid can return to tiptop shape — just like Miller said — Philly's subpar play is likely to persist.

Joel Embiid had an "ouch off" against Anthony Davis on Christmas Day

Not even holiday cheer could spare Embiid from the wrath of online users who were watching him on Dec. 25. While warming up for the Sixers' Christmas Day matchup against the Boston Celtics, Embiid tripped backward over the courtside rope and rolled his ankle.

Strangely enough, it was on that same day that Anthony Davis rolled his ankle as he walked into rebounding position during the Los Angeles Lakers showdown against the Golden State Warriors.

Seeing both of these bizarre injuries unfold, one netizen posted an AI-generated image of the big men with the caption:

"Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid having an ouch off."

While Davis was ruled out for the rest of the Warriors-Lakers game, Joel Embiid shook off his injury scare and powered the Sixers to a 118-114 win over the defending NBA champions. It's gutsy performances like these that could perhaps satisfy Miller and other Embiid critics. But they cannot hold out for long when the post-season approaches in April.
