Jeremiah Davenport, an Arkansas college basketball player, and another man were arrested in Washington Heights after the police found a loaded gun in their car. According to police, at around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, they spotted a black colored BMW X5 parked at the corner of Nagel Avenue and West 204 Street.

Police said Davenport, a 25-year-old graduate senior guard for the Razorbacks, and an unidentified 24-year-old man were spotted inside the BMW X5 with tinted windows. They were there for the NBA draft and when the local authorities stopped the car to check on it, they found marijuana smoke coming out of the vehicle.

Davenport was unable to provide the police with any sort of identification when the officers asked him for it. They also spotted a firearm inside the vehicle that was kept behind the passenger seat.

Both the men inside the vehicle were arrested after a brief talk. However, only Davenport was charged as the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office chose not to prosecute the unidentified 24-year-old partner of the Arkansas guard.

Davenport was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, tinted windows of a vehicle, and unlawful possession of an ammo-feeding device. On Saturday, he appeared in the Manhattan Criminal Court with his legal aid lawyer Russel Novack. Novack argued that 'there were serious search issues' in the case.

The Arkansas guard was subsequently released. Davenport has no prior convictions and has only been arrested once because of a connection to a speeding ticket case, where he was charged with a misdemeanor.

Jeremiah Davenport's college basketball career

Jeremiah Davenport played four seasons for the Cincinnati Bearcats from 2019 to 2023. He scored 1,060 career points in his four years with the Bearcats and led the team in 3-pointers made for a season twice.

As a junior, he led the team in rebounding, averaging 5.5 rebounds per game. He was also the second-leading scorer for his team the same season averaging 13.4 points per game.

Jeremiah Davenport switched to Arkansas as a grad transfer ahead of the 2023-24 season. He played 31 games for the Razorbacks last season, averaging 5.0 points and 1.8 rebounds in 15.8 minutes.
