The festive period in the NBA offers no respite and Thursday’s clash between the Houston Rockets and New Orleans Pelicans is no exception. However, the main talking point ahead of the game is Dillon Brooks, who has been ruled out due to nagging ankle soreness.
Brooks will miss a second straight game after being a late scratch ahead of Monday's 114-101 win over the Hornets, marking the first time he will miss back-to-back games this season. He started in all 28 games for the Rockets before this injury.
Brooks reportedly tweaked his ankle during warmups ahead of the Hornets clash as he was not listed on the injury report before the game.
The veteran swingman has been a key component for the Rockets, combining effectively with Alperen Sengun and Jalen Green, and has been effective in drawing fouls and driving forward. His scoring contributions have also proven to be decisive. Houston is 6-0 this season in games where Brooks scores at least 18 points.

Brooks is averaging 13.6 points, on 43.0% shooting, including 38.4% from beyond the arc, along with 4.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.
What Dillon Brooks absence means for the Rockets
With Dillon Brooks ruled out, Tari Eason and Amen Thompson will likely replace him in the starting lineup. However, replicating what Brooks offers will be a tall task, but these two will be required to provide the necessary support to help out youthful starters Jabari Smith and Jalen Green.
Thompson has played in all 28 games, starting three, and averages 12.0 ppg while Eason has played 24 games off the bench, averaging 11.3 ppg. Meanwhile, Cam Whitmore has appeared in 11 games off the bench, averaging 7.2 ppg and could get more playing time.
