With the LA Lakers desperately in need of upgrades, potentially another star, De'Aaron Fox, is one of the names that hit the fanbase's wishlist. Fox is still under contract with the Sacramento Kings. However, with the Lakers' division rivals in dire straits with a 13-17 record, ranked 12th in the West, there are reports that Fox might contemplate leaving the Kings.

According to The Athletic's report from Saturday, Fox and his agent, Rich Paul, who is also LeBron James' agent, met with the Kings executives amid the team's underwhelming run. Fox also declined a three-year $165 million extension last summer to see how things unfold in Sac-Town before he commits long-term to the franchise that drafted him eight years ago.

He still has one year on his contract after this season. That said, if the Kings were to move on, they would likely trade him and avoid losing him for nothing in 2026 free agency.

LA Lakers' Twitter engaged in a crucial discussion about the possibility of trading for De'Aaron Fox. This move will likely require Austin Reaves, earning $12,976,362 this season, to be concluded in a package. The debates revolved around moving on from Reaves, a crowd favorite among the Lakers' faithful.

Here's what one fan confidently agreed and said:

"Easily. Why is this even a question?"

Another fan, who claimed to be a fan of Reaves, also suggested the same.

"Yes without question and i’m an AR guy."

Meanwhile, many people also disagreed as one X user wrote:

"Hell no"

Another mentioned the need for depth over star power, saying:

Another said:

"There is no way in hell the lakers trade Austin reaves"

LA Lakers likely to get outbid in De'Aaron Fox sweepstakes

While adding De'Aaron Fox seems encouraging for the LA Lakers' prospects, they're unlikely to convince the Sacramento Kings to engage in a trade. Given their history as division rivals, the Kings may fetch better assets from the Lakers' rival suitors.

LA has a few enticing trade prospects who might help the Kings in a potential rebuild. The Lakers don't have win-now players to entice Sacramento if it prefers to remain competitive.

According to rumors, the Spurs are among the teams already monitoring De'Aaron Fox's situation. They have the draft picks and contracts to make a potential deal. The Spurs are also an attractive destination for Fox, who will team up with rising star Victor Wembanyama to form one of the league's newest duos.
