Klay Thompson was ruled out of the Dallas Mavericks' matchup against the Sacramento Kings on Monday, just an hour before tip-off. Despite not being listed on the injury report after Sunday's practice, Thompson fell ill and was subsequently unable to play.
The former Golden State Warriors star last appeared in the Mavericks' narrow 126-122 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday. It was a tough outing for the four-time NBA champion, who struggled with his shooting throughout the game.
Thompson finished with 12 points, shooting 5 of 17 from the field, including 2 of 8 from beyond the arc, while adding one rebound, one assist and one steal in 34 minutes.

In addition to Thompson, Kyrie Irving was also unavailable for Monday’s game against the Kings. Irving was a late scratch due to right shoulder soreness, which he reported on game day.
Jason Kidd shuts down Klay Thompson's critics
Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd defended Klay Thompson against his critics and offered insight into the veteran forward's mindset on the court. Following Thompson's 16-point performance in the Mavericks' 113-97 victory over the LA Clippers on Dec. 21, Kidd spoke openly about how the former Warriors star is adapting and embracing the team's approach.
"As much as we know we have a lot of critics that know how to play the game at a high level and are champions, they’re always going to have something to say," Kidd said. "But (Thompson) just goes out there and plays the game the right way and does what it takes for his team to win.
"That’s just part of the nature of this business. Everybody wants to poke holes, but he comes to work every day, he understands the new system. I think he even said give him 25 games or 30 games so that he can understand what’s taking place here, and I think he has turned that corner and understands what we’re trying to do."
Thompson is averaging 14.1 points on 41.6% shooting from the field, including 38.0% from 3-point range, this season.
