NBA fans give humorous feedback to Jayson Tatum for mimicking Kanye West's iconic quote

Jayson Tatum dropped the mic amid Celtcs' 18th title celebrations on Monday night after quoting Kanye West's famous acceptance speech from his 2005 Best Rap Album Grammy Award win.

West won the award for his debut album "The College Dropout," which he worked on while recovering from a brutal car accident that shattered his jaw. West themed the album around not listening to society and making your own decisions. That prompted him to give the most popular acceptance speeches of all time.

"Everybody want to know what I would do if I didn't win, I guess we'll never know," West said.

The sentiment around that speech resonated with Tatum's first championship and the criticism he endured leading up to it for his and Boston's past failures despite coming close. Tatum tried replicating West's monologue, but it wasn't verbatim.

"I know everybody who wondered what would happen if we didn't win. I guess we'll never know," Tatum said.

NBA fans didn't seem amused by Jayson Tatum's antics, as one fan called him out for not perfecting Kanye West's monologue as well as he would've liked.

"Jayson Tatum managed to ruin KG 'anything is possible' and Kanye West 'i guess we’ll never know' in less than 12hrs. Why did we let this cornball win a ring!!" the fan wrote.

The troll was referring to Tatum replicating Kevin Garnett's "anything's possible" after the Celtics legend won his first and only title with the Celtics in 2008.

Another fan called out Tatum for not producing a quote or moment during these celebrations that was "original."

"Tatum still hasn’t said anything original."

Another fan added:

"why won't this man just be himself???"

One fan called Tatum "corny."

"BRO THIS MAN SO CORNY I CAN’T"
"I didn’t know one person was capable of so much cringe," one fan wrote.

Jayson Tatum relentlessly clapped back at critics after maiden NBA championship win

Jayson Tatum soaked in all the emotions of his first NBA title and a record 18th for the Celtics on Monday night. He let his critics hear from the moment the celebrations began. Tatum's first comments after the 106-88 Game 5 win over the Dallas Mavericks set the tone for the theme of his night.

"What they gonna say now?" Tatum said.

Shortly after the celebrations began, Jordan Brand dropped their new commercial with Jayson Tatum with a dig at his critics. Here's what Tatum narrated in the ad:

"They all got plenty to say. That I don’t have what it takes... That I can’t lead… [I] can’t win it all. Well, maybe they’ll stop talking now. Then again, maybe it’s best they don’t."

Tatum and the Celtics have come up short time and again before Monday's success. Since he got drafted, Boston lost three conference finals and a finals series in 2022. Tatum faced the brunt of criticism for his inefficiency and lack of impact in big moments.

However, the 27-year-old peaked at the right time on Monday with a 31-point, eight rebounds, and 11 assists a game to close the deal for Boston. Tatum didn't win the finals MVP award, losing it to co-star Jaylen Brown, who was also phenomenal.

Nevertheless, Tatum led the Celtics in points, assists and rebounds in the 2024 NBA Playoffs, becoming the sixth player to achieve the feat.
