Over the past two years, Khris Middleton has battled numerous injuries that have stopped him from being in the lineup consistently. After a pair of procedures this summer, it appears the former All-Star's season debut is getting pushed back.

Middleton played in just 55 games last season and opted to get surgery done on both his ankles in the offseason. As he continues to recover from this procedure, he will miss be the start of the 2025 campaign. ESPN's Shams Charania reported Monday morning that Middleton will miss the Bucks' opening night matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers.

This is a big blow for the Bucks, as Khris Middleton has been a key member of the roster for years. Before injuries started to derail his career in 2023, he averaged 20 points or more in four of the previous five seasons.

After getting eliminated in the first round last season, the Bucks hope to re-enter the title conversation this year. Led by Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, Milwaukee has the firepower to stay afloat while Middleton continues to recover.

The NBA scheduled this opening night matchup with hopes of a thrilling matchup between two Eastern Conference contenders. While there will still be more than enough star power, neither side looks like they'll be at full strength.

Khris Middleton speaks on his goals with the Milwaukee Bucks heading into the 2024-25 season

For most of his time with the Milwaukee Bucks, Khris Middleton was the primary running mate alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, that changed in the summer of 2023 when the Milwaukee Bucks traded for Damian Lillard. Understanding the change in the pecking order, the veteran forward is redefining what a successful year means to him.

During a training camp interview, Middleton talked about his goals for the upcoming season. Playing in as many games as possible is key for him, but he's also willing to do whatever it takes for the Bucks to pile up wins.

“I’m going to have one of the best years that I can,” Middleton told The Athletic. “A consistent year. I want to play in many games."
"“To me, it’s simple. Just be the best version of myself I can be. If that means I’m scoring 10 points and we’re winning every single game, that’s a great year for me. Whatever it takes to win."

Seeing that he's already ruled out for the season opener, Khris Middleton's first goal is taking a slight hit. That said, his mindset is in the right place. Instead of being angry about moving down a spot in the hierarchy, Middleton is locked in on team success being more important than his personal numbers.
