Former LA Lakers player Nick Young initiated a Shaquille O'Neal and Tim Duncan debate on social media on Saturday. Young started the debate by saying that he thought Duncan was a better player compared to O'Neal. Duncan and Shaq's playing careers overlapped, with the San Antonio big man acquiring more titles compared to the Big Diesel.

Fans on social media trolled Young for his hot take and explained their sentiments on why they think otherwise. Here's what some had to say on X, formerly Twitter:

"You off that Kwame Brown coke huh💯"

"I know you’re trying to stay relevant Nick but some of your hot takes are wild bro!!!"

Here are other fan reactions on X:

"Dominant at what exactly? Shaq was more dominant defensively in the paint. Shaq had a higher fg pct in the paint. Shaq been dunked at, but never really dunked on. Maybe Bynum. Look at @SHAQ Finals stat lines, then look at Duncans. Then get back to me," one tweeted.
"They didn’t create a whole defensive scheme around Timmy. Hack a Shaq was created bc he couldn’t be stopped 🤷‍♂️," another tweeted.
"Can jump on board with most consistent, or crucial. But when you say dominate, that means being able to take over and control the game. TD didn’t have that impact like Shaq to take possession after possession," one said.
"I don't think you know what "dominant" means," another said.

Comparison between Shaquille O'Neal and Tim Duncan

When one hears the terms "most dominant center of all time", one could automatically think of Shaquille O'Neal. However, there's another big man who was just as great as the Big Diesel, and his name is Tim Duncan. O'Neal and Duncan have had similar careers in terms of success. The only major difference was that Shaq was more of a center compared to Timmy, who played more like a power forward.

Looking at their accolades, they almost have identical careers. Shaquille O'Neal has four NBA titles, 15 All-Star selections, one season MVP, three Finals MVPs, 14 All-NBA selections, and has won Rookie of the Year in 1993.

As for Duncan, he's had five NBA titles, 15 All-Star selections, two season MVPs, three Finals MVPs, 15 All-NBA selections, and also won Rookie of the Year in 1998.

However, if we're going to look into their numbers, O'Neal has the better figures. Looking at Shaq's career averages, he's averaged 23.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.3 blocks. As for Duncan, he averaged 19.0 ppg, 10.8 rpg, 3.0 apg and 2.2 bpg in his career.

With all these factored in, it all comes down to a fan's preference on who they think the better player is. At the end of the day, both Shaq and Duncan are some of the all-time greats in NBA history.
