San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama and Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook figured in a spirited exchange during the Spurs' narrow 113-110 road win on Friday. The alleged interaction between the two stars was posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.

Late in the second quarter, Wembanyama attempted a layup and was fouled by Westbrook. The 6-foot-3 Westbrook flew over the 7-foot-3 Wembanyama's back as the former tried to block the shot.

After the play, Wembanyama walked toward Westbrook, and the two exchanged words. X user @legendz_nba, known for transcribing player interactions, recently shared a video of the incident. Wembanyama seemingly said:

“You should’ve just went for the ball because you’re not gonna hit me in the head.”

Westbrook responded:

“What?”

Wembanyama then clarified:

“Just watch the head.”

Westbrook responded:

“What?”

Shortly after, the two stars were seen talking again and exchanging what appeared to be friendly taps.

Wembanyama led the Spurs (18-16) with 35 points and 18 rebounds on 14-for-22 (63.6%) shooting. Although he committed eight turnovers, the 2024 Rookie of the Year outdueled three-time MVP Nikola Jokic, who had 41 points, 18 rebounds and nine assists for the Nuggets (19-14).

Westbrook, a former MVP, started his 12th game of the season on Friday. He finished with nine points, eight assists and six rebounds. The 36-year-old has been a key contributor for Denver, appearing in all 33 games this season.

Wembanyama and Westbrook meet again on Saturday as the Spurs host the Nuggets at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Victor Wembanyama's milestone after 100 games

Friday's win against the Nuggets is Victor Wembanyama's 100th career game. According to NBA.com, he is the only player in history to accumulate 2,273 points, 1,053 rebounds, 386 assists, 366 blocks and 225 3-pointers through his first 100 games.

Wembanyama turned 21 on Saturday, and his points scored through 100 games rank seventh in the last 45 years. He joins NBA legends like Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal and David Robinson on the list.

Wembayana also joins O'Neal, a four-time NBA champion, as the only players to average 20 points and 10 rebounds before the age of 21. Wembanyama is averaging 22.7 points and 10.5 rebounds in his career.

Victor Wembanyama's 386 total assists rank among the best for 7-foot centers through their first 100 contests. For blocks, only Robinson and Manute Bol have more.

Wembanyama’s 225 3-pointers through 100 games rank 11th-most in history, but he has surpassed Steph Curry (200 3-pointers in 100 games), the NBA's all-time leader in 3-pointers.
