Damian Lillard opens up on divorce and how it impacted his first season in Milwaukee

Throughout Damian Lillard's first season with the Milwaukee Bucks, he wasn't only working through a change of scenery and a change in coaches. He was also managing a public divorce, which saw his ex-wife request sole custody of their kids.

In addition, she also alleged that Lillard had been living in another house for a year, and because of his packed schedule only visited with his kids a few times a week.

Then, after the midway point in the season, the Bucks decided to shake things up and fire coach Adrian Griffin, replacing him with Doc Rivers which led to an adjustment period for the entire team.

In February, Lillard spoke about the situation (via Yahoo! Sports):

“You got to keep pushing forward, I think that's the best thing. As people we all know, you got to go home to your own stuff, everybody that can watch our games they go to their personal stuff, and it plays a part in how you do your job and how your every day goes.
“As much as I love basketball, and I love my job, I don’t care about it more than I care about my kids. Of course you carry it with you. People say, ‘When I hoop I ain’t thinking about nothing,’ but I’m not 21. I got three kids. I’m tight with my family and I’m going through a divorce.”

Now, after going through an adjustment period in his first season with the Bucks, the Lillard-Antetokounmpo duo has their sights set on a deep postseason run. The guard looks to capture his first NBA title after parting ways with the Portland Trail Blazers.
