Zach Edey and the Memphis Grizzlies continued a four-game homestand with a matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday. Edey and Co. could win the season series with another victory against the injury-hampered team.

The 7-foot-4 center impacted the game early inside the paint. He blocked fellow rookie Yves Missi’s shot, grabbed an offensive rebound and completed the sequence with a hook shot on the other end.

Edey finished the first quarter with four points, two rebounds and altered multiple shots around the rim. Memphis led 33-29 after the first 12 minutes ended.

Edey played roughly four minutes in the second quarter and contributed two points, three rebounds and one block. The Grizzlies allowed the Pelicans to get back into the game but still had a 71-62 advantage heading into the second half.

Zach Edey was all over the floor in the third quarter. He had four points, four rebounds, one steal and one assist.

Desmond Bane sizzled for 12 points and 5 assists, but the pro-Grizzlies crowd showered the rookie with applause when he went out with five minutes left. Memphis dominated the period 43-29 to lead 105-100 before the fourth quarter.

The former Purdue star continued to shine early in the final frame. He drilled a corner 3-pointer to open the Grizzlies' scoring. Two plays later, he grabbed a rebound and then fed Luke Kennard for an open jump shot.

Edey kept his impact on defense until he left with 6:21 to go. Memphis had a 124-112 lead when he exited for good.

Zach Edey records first double-double in January in Grizzlies' 139-126 win over New Orleans Pelicans

Zach Edey had an outstanding December, finishing the month with 11.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 blocks per game. He had three double-doubles, including an impressive 21-point and 16 rebound night against the Toronto Raptors on Dec. 26.

Edey's minutes dropped from 26.0 per game in December to 17.8 MPG this month. It took him until the last week of January to record his first double-double. He could add more if he gets the same playing time he did last month.
