Powell attended Lincoln High School in San Diego, California, where he helped lead the team to back-to-back California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) San Diego Section 2A championships in 2009 and 2010.

Over the course of his successful high school career, Powell demonstrated his incredible athleticism and leaping ability. As a top prospect out of high school, Powell was ranked as a four-star recruit by multiple scouting services. He played an integral role in establishing Lincoln High School as a California basketball powerhouse.

Norman Powell College

Norman Powell played four seasons of college ball at UCLA. As a freshman, he averaged 17.8 minutes per game. He even contemplated transferring to San Diego State at one point. However, he decided to remain with UCLA after head coach Ben Howland was fired.

Under new coach Steve Alford, Powell took on a new role as a defensive stopper while continuing to expand his offensive game. He saved his best collegiate season for last, averaging 16.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game as a senior.

Powell was outstanding in securing two pivotal wins to close out the regular season. His efforts helped the Bruins earn the fourth seed and a coveted bye in the 2015 Pac-12 Tournament, keeping their NCAA Tournament hopes alive.

For his strong play, Powell was voted First Team All-Pac-12 and received Honorable Mention for the All-Defensive Team. He also garnered recognition as a First Team All-District selection. Though his role was inconsistent early on, Powell left an imprint at UCLA as an athletic two-way player who spearheaded a program revival under Coach Alford.

Norman Powell Draft

In the 2015 NBA Draft, Powell was selected 46th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks. However, his draft rights were soon traded to the Toronto Raptors, where he played for six seasons.

His breakout season came in 2019 when he helped the Raptors win their first ever NBA Championship, defeating the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.

After six impressive seasons with the Raptors, Powell was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers in 2021. Over two seasons in Portland, he averaged 18.0 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Then in February 2022, Powell was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers where he was reunited with former Raptor teammate Kawhi Leonard.

Now in his second season with the Clippers, Powell is a key player that the franchise hopes can help lead them deep into the playoffs in the 2023/24 season. His athleticism and two-way ability make him a crucial component of any championship contender.
