
Omar-Sharif Cook is an American-Montenegrin professional basketball coach and former player who works as an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He attended and played for Christ the King Regional High School in Queens, New York. He then attended St. John’s University to play collegiate basketball and was ranked second in the nation and first in the Big East in assists during his lone year at the college.
Cook decided to declare for the 2001 NBA Draft and was picked 32nd overall by the Orlando Magic. He had a 2-year stint in the NBA, in which he played first for the Portland Trail Blazers and then for the Toronto Raptors. He averaged 1.7 points, 2.1 assists and 0.6 rebounds per game in his NBA Stint. Following this, he played in Spain and Italy, ending his career in 2022. He is the recipient of numerous awards and championships, some of the most notable being, the FIBA EuroCup Challenge championship (2007), Montenegrin League Championship (2015, 2016), among others. He was also the ABA League Assists leader in 2016, the NBDL League Assists Leader, the BPBL Assists Leader in 2006 and many more. Since his retirement from professional basketball in 2022, he has been part of the Cleveland Cavaliers as an assistant coach.
