Just 12 months ago, Derrick Rose was complementing retiring from basketball. Despite still being in his 20s, the former MVP's best days appeared to be behind him, as persistent injuries had stunted a career that was destined for the Hall of Fame.
Yet, Rose opted to sign a one-year minimum deal in Minnesota after impressing during the 2018 playoffs, and he wasted no time in demonstrating why he became NBA's youngest ever MVP. On his first start for the Timberwolves, Rose scored a career-high 50 points in a 128–125 win over the Utah Jazz, and his form earned calls for an All-Star nod.

While this never materialized, Rose continued to excel as the sixth man, finishing the season averaging 18.0 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.7 rebounds. At 30, Rose should still have a number of years remaining, and if the Magic can sign him to a two-year deal for around $10 million, Rose would represent a huge improvement over D.J. Augustin.
