Orlando Magic vs San Antonio Spurs preview
The Magic had a successful 2023-24 season as they finished fifth in the East with a 47-35 record. While they eventually lost in the first round to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the series went down to Game 7. This showed that Orlando was heading in the right direction and was able to compete at the highest level.
During Sunday’s loss to New Orleans, the Magic were led by Paolo Banchero’s 15 points. Jalen Suggs and Cole Anthony had 11 points each.
The Spurs finished last season 14th in the West with a 22-60 record. They had one of the youngest rosters in the league and not much was expected of them. However, all eyes were on 2023 No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama.
The French phenom exceeded all expectations on his way to being named Rookie of the Year. He was also a Defensive Player of the Year contender as he led the league in blocks (3.6 per game.)
The obvious next step for Wemby is to make the Spurs a playoff contender. The management signed Chris Paul over the summer, and he should be a perfect pick-and-roll partner with Wembanyama. Both players didn’t play against OKC on Monday.
