Considered as one of the most talented professional basketball players of the current generation, Paolo Banchero was born on November 12, 2002 in Seattle, Washington, USA to an African-American mother, Rhonda, and an Italian father, Mario.

Both Banchero’s parents attended the University of Washington. His father was a collegiate football player and his mother was a college basketball player and an all-time scoring leader when she left college. She went on to play professional basketball in the WNBA and overseas. Banchero followed in his mother’s footsteps and chose to play for the United States instead of Italy.

Banchero was picked first overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2023 NBA Draft. He played 72 games for the Orlando Magic in the 2022-23 season, averaging 20.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists per game. He won NBA Rookie of the year for his performance where he achieved 98 out of 100 first place votes. He was also named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

Banchero’s performances earned him his maiden call to represent Team USA in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. He helped his team advance to the semis, where they lost to Germany.

Standing at a staggering 6'10" height, Banchero has a 7 foot 1 inch wingspan. He went to O'Dea High School in Seattle, where he won the Class 3A state championship and was named Most Valuable Player for his performance. He received Washington Gatorade Player of the Year and MaxPreps National Junior of the Year. His performances earned him a spot in the McDonald's All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic.
