Orlando Magic rookie Paolo Banchero hit the ground running in his NBA debut. The talented forward went on to finish with 27 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists against the Detroit Pistons. It was the first debut since LeBron James that saw a rookie finish with more than 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
After being selected with the first overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft, Banchero came into the season as a hyped rookie. The rookie forward was considered a favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award. So far, it has been a sensational start for Banchero in his debut. One that has basketball fans buzzing at the potential of the 6'11" forward.
Speaking recently on an episode of "The Hoop Genius" podcast, former NBA veteran BJ Armstrong praised Banchero's debut. Armstrong went on to talk about how Banchero's fame is already NBA-ready, calling him "a man." It's often rare for rookies to look so ready for the NBA game early on. That's just how it looked for Paolo Banchero during his performance on opening night.
"I'm going to tell something that's interesting about Paolo, he has an NBA body right now. You know, normally you say guys gotta grow into their body, you know, like we're talking about during you talking about other young players. Well, let me tell you something. Paulo is every bit 250 right now. He's a man. He has a man's body right now. He's strong, very skilled, has a game and you know, it's a big time performance here versus Detroit Pistons."

Paolo Banchero shines in NBA Debut for Orlando Magic
It was almost the perfect debut for Paolo Banchero and the Orlando Magic. Although the team would lose a close game to the Detroit Pistons, Banchero was sensational. The 6'11" forward showcased his versatility on the offensive side of the floor.
Orlando was looking for a player who could be a focal point of their offense and Paolo looks to have that potential. Banchero also had a poster dunk that sent the basketball world into a frenzy. It looks as if the 19-year-old forward will have plenty of highlights in store for the upcoming season.
Banchero now looks to be the heavy favorite when it comes to potential Rookie of the Year contenders. Many expected that Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren would be in the mix. Holmgren is expected to miss the season while recovering from an injury.
Orlando has been a franchise desperate to take the step in the right direction from their rebuild. If last night was hint at anything, it's that Banchero could be the missing piece to move them forward. Banchero also showed chemistry while playing alongside 2021 lottery selections Jalen Suggs and Franz Wagner.
The Orlando Magic will look to bounce back against the Atlanta Hawks next. For Banchero, it will be another opportunity to showcase his ability on the basketball court.
