Before the NBA, Mills played college basketball at St Mary’s College in California, where he won multiple individual honors. These include the WCC Newcomer of the Year and All-WCC First-team honors. He was primarily known for being a tremendously quick point guard with good ball-handling skills. With his solid passing ability and court vision, he also has the ability to play the pick-and-roll.
The Portland Trail Blazers selected Patty Mills with the 55th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. Since then, he has played for five NBA teams over 15 seasons.
Before joining the Spurs in 2012, Mills played overseas in the NBL and China, due to the NBA lockout. The Spurs at this point of time were led by Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and the legendary Tim Duncan. As a result, Mills played his role to perfection from the bench, averaging 7.3 points on 40.5% shooting from beyond the arc in the playoffs. He became a key part of their rotation, playing 665 games, seventh in Spurs’ history.
