Pritchard was born on January 28, 1998 in Tualatin, Oregon. The 26-year-old American guard was drafted as the 26th pick by the Boston Celtics in the 2020 NBA Draft. Pritchard can play as a combo guard giving versatility on the floor to the Boston Celtics and is a fan favorite player in Boston.

Pritchard played for the University of Oregon in the Pac-12 conference of the NCAA championship in his college years and was a 2 time Pac-12 winner. He led them to two conference titles, which earned him multiple accolades as a junior.

He also earned the MVP of the Pac-12 tournament and decided to declare for the NBA 2019 draft. He changed his mind again by deciding to play his senior year, where he scored 29 points in the final regular season game clinching the 2nd title. It won him the Bob Cousy award and Pac-12 player of the year.

Payton Pritchard signed a four-year $10 million rookie contract with the Boston Celtics in November 2020, with a team option in the last two years of his contract. Both those years were exercised by the Celtics and he is now (March 2024) in the final year of the old contract.
