Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers is a Oregon, Portland based American club who used to compete in the NBA. The team plays in the Northwest division of the western conference and has won an NBA championship only once in 1977. The team joined the NBA league in 1970 as a part of NBA expansion and since then has been a consistent participant in the league.

The Blazers is led by head coach Chauncey Bilups and the team play their home matches at Moda center arena. The team has also advanced to the NBA finals two times in 1990 and 1992.

After trading franchise superstar Damian Lillard in the 2023 offseason, the Blazers are currently in rebuilding mode. However, they picked Scoot Henderson third overall this year, and will be hoping to build the team around him. In the 2022/23 season, Henderson averaged 16.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game in the NBA G-League.

Portland Trail Blazers Championships

The Portland Trail Blazers won their only NBA championship in 1977. In the 1976-1977 season, the Blazers qualified for the playoffs for the first time since the team’s inception. The Philadelphia 76ers came out from the east with a 50-32 record and had home-court advantage. Meanwhile, the Blazers finished the regular season with the third-best record in their conference (49-33).

The Trail Blazers swept a strong Los Angeles Lakers team in the Western Conference Finals and advanced to the Finals for the first time in franchise history.

In the NBA Finals, the Sixers took full advantage of their home court and defeated the Blazers in the first two games. However, the NBA saw a once-in-a-decade comeback where the team bounced back and won the next four games consecutively, a replica of the Boston Celtics counter in 1969.

The Blazers were led by Bill Walton and the Sixers were led by Julius Erving. Walton showcased an impressive performance in the Finals where he averaged 18.5 points, 19.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game, on 54.5% shooting from the field. As a result, Walton was named Finals MVP for the first time in his career.
