
Born on September 19, 1999, in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Precious Achiuwa is a professional basketball player who plays for the New York Knicks. His family moved to the US and settled in New York when he was a teenager.
As a five-star recruit out of high school, Achiuwa played college basketball for the Memphis Tigers. In his one-and-done season, he led the Tigers in total points, rebounds and blocks, shooting 51.4% from within the arc. He was named AAC Freshman of the Year as well as AAC Player of the Year in 2020, while being named on the First-team All-AAC.
The Miami Heat selected Achiuwa with the 20th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. After one season with the Heat, he was traded to the Toronto Raptors, where he averaged his career-high in points (9.2 ppg) in the 2022/23 season.
Precious Achiuwa Trade
In December 2023, Achiuwa was traded to the New York Knicks from the Toronto Raptors as part of the OG Anunoby deal. The blockbuster deal happened during the trade window, and Achiuwa has been an underrated aspect of the trade. The Knicks have also used him as a starter due to injuries at times.
Since the trade, Achiuwa has found a solid bench role with the Knicks, and is ranked in the top 30 for rebounds and 10th in offensive rebounds. He averaged 7.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game and registered seven double-doubles for the Knicks in 49 games in the 2023/24 season.
