The Pune Peshwas got their Universal basketball Alliance (UBA) campaign off to a winning start after beating the Bengaluru Beast 88-81 in the opening match at the Gachibowli stadium in Hyderabad.
The opening quarter saw the Beast begin on a positive note, but the tide began to shift towards to the Peshwas’ side, even as the former finished the quarter with a 19-18 lead.
Right from the onset of the second quarter, it was the Peshwas who held the upper hand. Despite a vociferous crowd chanting for them, the Beasts were extremely inconsistent, failing to score on many occasions. The Peshwas managed to cling on to a 42-35 lead at the end of the second quarter.
The momentum shift became even more apparent at the beginning of the third quarter as the Peshwas recorded two three-pointers on the trot to put the pressure on the Beasts. The quarter saw both teams score many points, but it was the Peshwas who finished the third quarter with a 71-60 lead.
The final quarter saw a spree of baskets from both teams. But despite The Beasts putting in a spirited effort, it was the Peshwas who came out on top, winning 88-81 to get their campaign off to a winning start.
