Qualification completed for 2014 FIBA World Cup

After the completion of continental basketball championships in all the zones (FIBA Asia, FIBA Africa, FIBA America, FIBA Oceania and FIBA Europe), the qualification for 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup has been completed.

The 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, FIBA’s flagship event, will be held next summer from 30 August to 14 September in Spain. 20 teams have qualified through the continental championships and four teams will be provided wild cards by FIBA to play in its flagship event.

Following countries have qualified for the SPAIN 2014 FIBA World Cup.

  3. Iran (Winners, 2013 FIBA Asia Championship)
  4. Philippines (1st Runners up, 2013 FIBA Asia Championship)
  5. Korea (2nd Runners up, 2013 FIBA Asia Championship)
  6. Australia (Winner, 2013 FIBA Oceania Championship)
  7. New Zealand (Runners up, 2013 FIBA Oceania Championship)
  8. Angola (Winner, 2013 FIBA Africa Championship)
  9. Egypt (1st Runners up, 2013 FIBA Africa Championship)
  10. Senegal (2nd Runners up, 2013 FIBA Africa Championship)
  11. Mexico (Winners, 2013 FIBA Americas Championship)
  12. Puerto Rico(1st Runners up, 2013 FIBA Americas Championship)
  13. Argentina (2nd Runners up, 2013 FIBA Americas Championship)
  14. Dominican Republic (4th Place, 2013 FIBA Americas Championship)
  15. France (Winners, 2013 EuroBasket)
  16. Lithuania (Runners Up, 2013 EuroBasket)
  17. Croatia (4th Place, 2013 EuroBasket)
  18. Slovenia (5th Place, 2013 EuroBasket)
  19. Ukraine (6th Place, 2013 EuroBasket)
  20. Serbia (7th Place, 2013 EuroBasket)

Countries that have participated in the continental championship in 2013 and did not qualify for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup can send an application to FIBA expressing their interest to play in the World Cup. No more than three national teams from one FIBA zone can receive the wild card.

FIBA will announce the wild cards at its central board meeting on the weekend of 1-2 February 2014 in Barcelona, Spain. The draw for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup will take place on Monday, 3 February 2014.
