Reed Sheppard, a rising star in college basketball, was born on June 24, 2004, in Kentucky. He started playing basketball at a young age when he joined North Laurel High School in London, Kentucky. In the school, he was named Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year and Kentucky Mr. Basketball. His journey to stardom began as a freshman when he became the starting shooting guard for his high school team, averaging an impressive 20.6 points per game.

During his sophomore season, Sheppard's scoring prowess reached new heights, leading the entire state of Kentucky in scoring.​ As a junior, he continued to dominate, averaging an impressive 25.5 points, 7.6 assists, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.4 steals per game, further solidifying his status as one of the top prospects in the 2023 class.

After his successful high school career, Reed Sheppard was a consensus four-star recruit and one of the top players in the 2023 class out of the University. Despite offers from prestigious universities like Virginia and Louisville, he decided to enrol at the University of Kentucky, following in his father's footsteps by donning the iconic jersey number 15.

During the summer before his freshman year, Sheppard showcased his talents on the international stage, playing for the Wildcats in the GLOBL JAM tournament in Canada. Over the four games, he averaged 8.5 points, 5.8 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. His impressive performance led the team to an undefeated tournament championship.

Sheppard's stellar play continued throughout the regular season, earning him the SEC Freshman of the Year honor from the conference coaches. In his lone season with the University of Kentucky, Sheppard averaged 12.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game in 33 games. His outstanding performance earned him national recognition and he was named the national freshman of the year. After his outstanding college career, Sheppard decided to declare for the 2024 NBA Draft.
