Report: Minnesota Timberwolves inform Karl Anthony Towns he will be No.1 pick in NBA Draft

Kentucky’s Karl Anthony Towns

Right from the end of the NCAA season in late March, it was clear the fight for the top prospect in the 2015 NBA Draft was between Kentucky’s Karl Anthony Towns and Duke’s Jahill Okafor. While that debate might not be settled but according to a report, the Minnesota Timberwolves, the team with the No.1 overall pick will draft Towns and informed him of the same.

Adam Zagoria of Zagsblog.com says in his report:

The Minnesota Timberwolves have informed Karl-Anthony Towns that they will select him with the No. 1 pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft, a source close to Towns told SNY.tv.

“It’s done, he’s going to Minnesota,” the source said. “[Minnesota President and coach] Flip Saunders was big on Jahlil Okafor for a minute there and after Karl came in [on Saturday], he decided to work out for them. He only worked out for them and it’s a wrap. It’s a wrap. They just told him they’re going to take him No. 1.”

If indeed he is drafted as the number one overall, Towns will join fellow number one overall picks and Canadians in Andrew Wiggins (2014) and Anthony Bennett (2013) in Minnesota. The Timberwolves will be hoping they that he can play along with the current team’s young core in Wiggins and point guards Ricky Rubio and Zach Lavine.

Towns averaged 10.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game during his only season at Kentucky. What made him a top prospect was his athelticism however his ability to contribute effectively on both ends of the floor always put him a nedge ahead of fellow draft prospect Okafor.
