In the midst of his third season, Saddiq Bey could be on the move. Rumors are starting to swirl that the Detroit Pistons might be willing to move on from the former first-round pick.
After years of rebuilding, the Pistons find themselves with a good crop of young talent. Headlined by Cade Cunningham and rookie Jaden Ivey, the franchise is establishing its core for the future. However, sitting in dead last in the Eastern Conference, they might start scanning the league for possible moves.
In the NBA, December 15th marks the unofficial start of trade season. From then on, players who signed deals in the offseason are eligible to be traded.
With that date rapidly approaching, Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports put out his latest intel from around the league. It was there he cited that the Pistons are starting to take calls on Saddiq Bey.

"Another Pistons player league personnel are monitoring is third-year forward Saddiq Bey... Detroit has taken early calls on Bey from inquiring teams, sources said, a change in behavior from recent trade windows. But it seems the Pistons are intent on further evaluating Bey before truly entertaining his trade market."
Saddiq Bey, 23, is in the midst of a down year. Through 17 games, he is averaging 14.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.6 assists while shooting a career-low 29% from beyond the arc.
Should the Detroit Pistons be in a rush to move on from Saddiq Bey?
At this point in their rebuild, the Detroit Pistons shouldn't make any rash decisions regarding one of their key young pieces. Even though Saddiq Bey has seen a slight dip in production, they shouldn't be in any sort of hurry to ship him out.
In today's NBA, three-and-D wings are extremely valuable. While still in his early stages, Bey has the potential to become that type of player. At six-foot-seven, he has the size to be versatile on defense. Also, he is a career 36% shooter from deep on almost seven attempts per game.
Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey are the clear favorites to be the pillars of the franchise moving forward. As two ball-dominant guards who like to attack, they need players around them who can open the floor. Bey is the ideal complement to them, and should be in their future plans.
Outside of his slow start this year, Bey has been a solid addition to the Pistons. Giving up on a player like him this early in his career could prove to be foolish down the road.
