Royce O'Neale is a professional basketball player currently playing small forward for the Phoenix Suns. He attended Harker Heights High School in Texas before playing college basketball at the University of Denver for two years starting in 2011.
He then transferred to Baylor University in 2013 to be closer to his ailing grandfather. The NCAA granted O'Neale a waiver to transfer rules due to his family situation, making him immediately eligible to play.
At Baylor, O'Neale had an outstanding college career. After graduating in 2015, he played professionally in Germany for Riesen Ludwigsburg in 2015-2016 and Gran Canaria in 2016-2017. In 2017, O'Neale signed with the Utah Jazz. In his rookie NBA season, he averaged 5.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
O'Neale played six seasons with the Jazz as a key rotation player known for his defense and versatility. In the 2022-2023 season with the Brooklyn Nets, he put up 8.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.
In February 2024, the Nets traded O'Neale to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Keita Bates-Diop and Jordan Goodwin. The Suns were eager to add the defensive-minded O'Neale to their roster.
