Rui Hachimura is a professional Japanese basketball power forward for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2025 NBA season. He attended Meisei High School in Toyama, Japan, where he began his basketball journey. After winning back-to-back high school tournaments, Hachimura was invited to play in the 2015 Jordan Brand Classic game. He impressed several college recruiters and eventually signed a National Letter of Intent to enroll at Gonzaga University in 2016.
During his junior season, Hachimura averaged 19.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists and received the WCC Player of the Year and Second-team All-American honors, as per Gonzaga Bulldogs' official website. After forgoing his senior season, Hachimura declared for the 2019 NBA Draft was drafted ninth overall by the Washington Wizards.
