Anonymous NBA executive calls Jaylen Brown a 'smart man,' says 'he kind of sees through some of the BS of the league'

Jaylen Brown garnered attention after he was noncommittal regarding his future with the Boston Celtics in a Logan Murdock article in The Ringer .

With Brown having another standout season with the Celtics, it's easy to see why his comments would gain attention from NBA executives.

In an article by Sean Deveney for Heavy Sports, one executive said:

"Jaylen is a smart man. He kind of sees through some of the BS of the league. It would be of no advantage to him to come out and say, ‘Hell, yeah, I want to stay in Boston and I’ll sign whatever they give me.’ That might be the popular answer, but he is not going to give the popular answer.

"Things change fast in the NBA, and who knows where they might be in two years?"

Brown is averaging 26.7 points on 49.2% shooting, 6.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists for the Celtics (50-23).

In the summer of 2024, Jaylen Brown will be an unrestricted free agent with the assumption of him receiving a supermax extension to remain in Boston. Brown is eligible to receive a huge contract extension of $290 million (five years), if he comes part of one of the All-NBA teams this season.

However, if he doesn't get chosen by either one of the All-NBA teams this season, things could get complicated for the Celtics.

Jaylen Brown's comments regarding the trade rumor with Kevin Durant

Before the season began, an NBA rumor that received a lot of attention from the media was a trade package involving Jaylen Brown, Derrick White and future draft picks to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Kevin Durant.

Trade rumors are common in the NBA, with most either being purely chatter or some turning into reality. Players who get traded occasionally find out the news on social media, as opposed to having a talk first with the team's general manager.

As Jaylen Brown said in The Ringer, as it pertains to the NBA being a business:

"It’s hard coming into teams and organizations and being warm. They operate on different principles, I think. This is an organization. They look at it as a business, where they’ll tell you one thing, and then behind closed doors, they’ll say another, and they’ll trade you off.

"Tell you, ‘We love you,’ and they’ll be having like, ‘We’re going to trade him next week.’ I think that’s just how business is run. (Durant) and JT (Jayson Tatum) are friends. They was working out together and whatnot. So, I wasn’t sure what the energy was. I wasn’t sure what the direction of the organization was."

With Jaylen Brown focusing on the moment at hand, and with what's at stake in winning an NBA championship, he followed up his comments on the trade rumors by saying:

"I just enjoy the time that you have now. If it’s your whole career, it’s your whole career. If it’s not, it’s not. Some of the greatest players of all time haven’t finished with their organization. Michael Jordan retired a Wizard.

"As much as we like it here and enjoy being here, you see where life takes you. You see how the process goes. All you do is really focus on what’s in front of you right now, to be honest. But I don’t really know or want to answer that question because that type of stuff makes Celtics fans speculate and go crazy. Especially right now, I’ll just say we’ll get there when we get there."

With the NBA regular season in its final stretch of games before the start of the playoffs, along with the pressure on the Boston Celtics to reach the NBA Finals and win a championship, the timing of this situation could not have come at a worse time.
