The Dallas Mavericks are expected to be active before the trade deadline and likely acquire a third star to add to Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. One of the stars recently linked to the Mavericks is Pascal Siakam, who has an expiring contract with the Toronto Raptors.
According to Jaker Fischer of Yahoo! Sports, there have been some discussions between the Mavericks and Raptors regarding Siakam. Fischer told the "Locked On Mavericks" podcast that the Dallas front office views the two-time All-Star as a missing piece to a championship team.
"I can definitely say that there's been conversations," Fischer said. "I know that to be true, and I know there are absolutely people in Dallas who really think Pascal is a missing piece that could potentially pair with Luka and Kyrie Irving.
"And, all of a sudden, you look up, and the Mavericks off are a legitimate contender in the West."

The Dallas Mavericks are seventh in the stacked Western Conference, with a 23-16 record. They are just four games behind the top seed, so the margin of error for the rest of the year is small. They need to be more consistent and get as many wins as possible.
Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving have carried the team this season, but both players have suffered injuries. Doncic is out with an ankle injury, while Irving sat out a few weeks with a foot issue.
Meanwhile, the Toronto Raptors are ready to rebuild around Scottie Barnes after trading OG Anunoby to the New York Knicks. Pascal Siakam has an expiring contract, so his value won't be as high as it was over the past couple of seasons.
Dallas Mavericks trade: Can Mark Cuban and Co. draw up a decent package for Pascal Siakam?
The Dallas Mavericks will have a lot of competition for Pascal Siakam, who's viewed by many as a great second or third option for a championship team. But can the Mavericks entice the Toronto Raptors to make a deal for Siakam before or at the trade deadline?
One possible package the Mavericks can offer includes Tim Hardaway Jr., Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell for Siakam. The Mavs can also add a future first-round pick and a couple of second-rounders to sweeten the deal.
While it's not as enticing as other potential offers, the Raptors can still flip Hardaway and Kleber for more assets. Powell is from Toronto and could be a good backup center after they traded away Precious Achiuwa in the OG Anunoby deal.
Another thing the Mavs need to do is to ensure that Siakam signs a new contract with them or they will lose him in free agency. Dallas had some experience in that regard with Kyrie Irving last season.
