The Golden State Warriors and two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo have been linked before, especially during the NBA offseason. Now, a little over a month into the 2024-2025 season, they are being connected again. This comes after recent reports from ESPN Senior NBA Insider Shams Charania said that Golden State is currently in a "real hunt" to find another star alongside Stephen Curry.

"I'm told that the Warrios are on a real hunt for a star, a playmaker or a scorer alongside Stephen Curry," Charania quipped.

This prompted a fan to re-speculate and make their comments known about Antetokounmpo and the Golden State:

"Giannis would go perfect in golden state," one user tweeted.

Pairing Antetokounmpo with Curry, a four-time champion and two-time NBA MVP, will indeed send waves around the league, but can Golden State pull it off?

NBA analysts on feasibility of Giannis' potential move to the Warriors

Brian Windhorst, speaking on ESPN NBA Countdown on Dec. 6, said it will be difficult for Golden State to arrange a blockbuster trade, considering the salary tax implications on team this season.

"Any trade that the Warriors make is going to be complicated," Windhorst commented, adding, "Any trade that they make, they really can't take on more money," said Windhorst

Despite this, Sharania further added that teams are still closely monitoring the situation in the Bay Area.

"The debate with the Warriors and teams that look into that situation is for them, are they going to find that externally outside of this roster currently or will it be in-house with a player like Jonathan Kuminga," Charania said.

Golden State has long been in a hunt for additional firepower after the departure of Klay Thompson. Last summer, Lauri Markannen was on Golden State's radar, and it was one of the biggest storylines of the 2024 offseason. They were reportedly in negotiations with the Utah Jazz before it fell through.

The Warriors also reportedly made a pitch to acquire Paul George before the star forward eventually landed with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Probably the lingering question in the mind of Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. is how can Golden State maximize Curry and Green. When the 2024-2025 season ends, Curry will then be 37, and Green will be 35.

"The Warriors' future will be shaped over the next few weeks or couple of months before the trade deadline. How can they get that next championship with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green," Charania added.

Just two seasons removed from the franchise's fourth championship since 2015, Golden State (13-8) currently sits fifth in the loaded Western Conference. They are 4-6 in their last ten games.

Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks (11-10) also sit at fifth in the East. They are 8-2 in their last ten games after starting the season 2-8.
