Ahead of the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline, the LA Lakers are expected to be one of the more active teams. With the team looking to make the most of the years left on LeBron James' current contract, the belief is that LA will look to use draft picks and rotational players to bring in a player who can help push the team to title contention.
According to ESPN's NBA insider, Shams Charania, LA is willing to part ways with three first-round picks if it means acquiring a player to help James and Anthony Davis.
On "First Take," Charania spoke about the latest trade rumors, suggesting that LA is willing to sacrifice future assets for players they hope to retain over the next 3-5 years.
"They feel like, when you think about LeBron James, Anthony Davis, 'How do we round out this team around both of those guys?' They're monitoring the sellers around the NBA, Portland, Washington, Toronto, [and] maybe Chicago," Charania said.

"And my sources in that Lakers front office tell me they've got three first round picks they can trade, they're open to moving that in a potential trade, but they want a player or players that they feel can get into this iteration of this team now ... but can also play for three, four, five more years under JJ Redick," Charania added.
Looking at some of the potential players who could be available to the LA Lakers between now and the trade deadline
Heading into the Feb. 6 deadline, there are a number of high-profile players whom LA could target. Some notable names include Zach LaVine, Jimmy Butler, and Brandon Ingram. However, Jovan Buha of The Athletic seemed to pour cold water on the situation.
In an article on Dec. 17, Buha wrote that the Lakers aren't anticipated to be in the mix for any of the above-mentioned star players. Instead, Buha mentioned role players like Walker Kessler, Colin Sexton, Bruce Brown Jr., Jerami Grant, Robert Williams III, and Kyle Kuzma as potential targets.
Additionally, there have been reports that LA has shown interest in bringing back Lonzo Ball, a player whom Chicago seems willing to part ways with before the deadline.
At the top of the Lakers' list of needs is a defensive-minded guard who can facilitate, as well as a true center. Given that, players like Sexton and Kessler both seem to make sense.
While Williams III also could make sense as a trade target for LA, given his injury history, the Lakers may be hesitant to give up assets when Williams has only played 60+ games once in his career.
With plenty of options on the table and plenty of time between now and the deadline, only time will tell how Rob Pelinka and LA's front office decide to handle things.
