A recent NBA rumor has seen the Dallas Mavericks show interest in Phoenix Suns star big man Deandre Ayton. However, as per Bleacher Report's Eric Pincus, there are also a few other options on Dallas' radar.
The Dallas Mavericks' season came to a disappointing end after their loss to the Chicago Bulls. Although the team is facing immense backlash from the league, the Mavs already appear to be in the process of building a stronger unit for next season.
Dallas' top priority is apparently to re-sign Kyrie Irving. However, as per Eric Pincus reports, the Mavs also have other plans that will be set in motion in the offseason.
"Assuming Irving returns, the Mavericks might have an eye (via trade) on Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton. Per NBA sources, Dallas also eyed Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner and Atlanta Hawks forward/center John Collins before the trade deadline."

Pursuing Deandre Ayton may not be easy. The notion of bringing him over to the Mavericks is indeed intriguing.
Ayton is a top-notch big man. Having signed a four-year max deal in the offseason, the Mavs will be forced to make a trade. Creating a package for the Suns center will definitely be a challenge. However, a trio of Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic and Ayton would be quite intimidating.
All these plans lynch on Dallas making some important moves in the offseason. With several implications for the future, the Mavericks will have to play things very carefully.

The Dallas Mavericks' crucial offseason
The Dallas Mavericks went from being the Western Conference runner-up to a playoff no-show in less than a year. While it is complicated to track exactly where it all went wrong, the Mavs campaign practically fell apart after the trade deadline.
Blaming the Kyrie Irving trade for everything is rather nonsensical. However, Dallas did lose a lot of key pieces in the process. Hence, this upcoming offseason will be crucial for the Dallas Mavericks.
Re-signing Irving is an important decision, and there will be some concerns about giving him a five-year deal. However, a long-term deal could be crucial in ensuring that Luka Doncic stays with the team after 2024.
Other than signing Kyrie and hopefully pursuing a talented big man such as Deandre Ayton, the Mavs will also need some defensive pieces. With players such as Jaden McDaniels, Alex Caruso and OG Anunoby among others in the free agent market, Dallas should have their pick of options.
