Trae Young has found a new base in Southern California. No, he’s not looking for a trade but has reportedly purchased a $20 million crib that was previously owned by retired NFL player Clay Matthews.
Matthews signed to play two seasons for the LA Rams starting in 2019, which was when he bought the mansion. He was released by the Rams in the offseason of 2020 and later put up his Calabasas house for sale.
Dirt.com originally reported on the news of Young acquiring Matthews’ former base:

“Records show the Texas native [Young], 24, who mainly splits his time between Atlanta and Oklahoma, has paid exactly $20 million for the sprawling Calabasas home of retired NFL linebacker Clay Matthews.

“The all-custom estate sits within the Estates at the Oaks, a double-gated community where other residents include Britney Spears, Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker.”
Several of the features of the mansion include a pool, a movie theater, an outdoor basketball court and a wine cellar. Trae Young will likely spend time here when the Atlanta Hawks are in California to play the LA Lakers, LA Clippers, and Golden State Warriors.
The two-time All-Star is averaging 27.2 points, 3.0 rebounds and 9.5 assists in 23 games for the Atlanta Hawks this season. He is expected to carry the Hawks again when they host the Chicago Bulls on Sunday.
Trae Young grabbed headlines just a few days ago when he had a public dispute with head coach Nate McMillan. Young was absent when the Hawks beat the Denver Nuggets 117-109 on December 2, which was very surprising.
The Atlanta Hawks franchise player was resting a sore shoulder but was expected to be around for the Nuggets game. He dismissed the whole issue in an interview:
“I mean, it was just a situation. I mean, we're all grown men here and there's some times we don't always agree. And it's unfortunate that private situations and private conversations got out to the public. But I guess that's the world we live in now.”
Trae Young hasn’t missed a game since that weird misunderstanding with McMillan.
Trae Young will be asked to do more without Dejounte Murray

Trae Young will have to deal with more defensive pressure without fellow NBA All-Star Dejounte Murray in the lineup. Murray played only four minutes against the New York Knicks on Wednesday after spraining his left ankle.
“Ice Trae” immediately picked up the slack in the Atlanta Hawks’ next game versus the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night. Young played 37 minutes and scored 33 points, to go with nine assists and three steals. His production wasn’t enough, though, to lead the Hawks to a win as they lost 120-116 to the Nets.
Dejounte Murray has been a big part of Atlanta's game plan on both ends of the floor. He’s a menace on defense and gives the team another elite playmaker with or without Young. Murray’s shotmaking, passing and hustle on offense have helped ease Young’s load on that end.
The Hawks will not have that luxury without Murray. With him gone for at least one week, Young will have to expect more double-teams and pressure from opposing defenses.
